Maybe the hardest times for indie artists are those first few months (or years) of obscurity, after finishing an album. You've poured your time, money, soul, blood, sweat and tears into producing an album. You've released it. Your day has arrived...and....no one cares. People won't lend you an ear for five minutes (particularly online).
If there is anything more demoralizing than producing music that "doesn't matter," someone please clue me in. At Find Your Fans, we firmly believe ... Read More

From Wikipedia: Last.fm is a UK-based Internet radio and music community website, founded in 2002. It claims over 21 million active users based in more than 200 countries.[1] On 30 May 2007, CBS Interactive acquired Last.fm for £140m ($280m USD).[2]
I've been aware of Last.fm for a few years; and it has evidently grown quite popular. But I can't really put my finger on what it is. It's sort of like Pandora (it has a music recommendation system), it's sort of ... Read More

Some of the easiest people to neglect may actually be your greatest fans. These are your friends, your family, the people that mean the most to you. Typically they will be very interested in your musical developments and career. And if you empower them, they can become little promotional companies in their own right.

Now that Caleb Brumbelow's new album "When I was sick" will be sitting on virtual music shelves all over the web (via TuneCore), we must concoct ways to draw people to those shelves and to his website. I am convinced that if the right listeners are exposed to his music, they will find (as I have) a deep, calming, healing, and somehow joyful experience in his lyrics and music.
Luckily for me, Pandora and services like it are streamlining this process of connecting ... Read More

The first step in blowing up Caleb Brumbelow's online music career will be to get his album into all the top digital retailers. For a discussion about why I chose TuneCore, please see Choosing a Digital Distributor.
I've found that just about everything I try to accomplish online is harder and takes longer than it should (or than I want it to). So the goal will be to streamline the TuneCore process, and document the best, fastest, most efficient way to ... Read More

A Digital Distributor is like a husband or wife - think long term relationship. Typically they are easy to get into, and sometimes hard or slow to get out of. There are quite a few options available to choose from including TuneCore, CDbaby, ioda, Ingrooves, The Orchard, and a slew of smaller guys.
I've worked with The Orchard, Ingrooves, CDbaby and TuneCore in the past. To my knowledge, only one of these offers a flat fee, taking zero percent of ... Read More

Greetings. I'd like to introduce you to Caleb Brumbelow. He is an indie artist out of Gresham Oregon. For the next month or so, FindYourFans will be doing our best to expose Caleb's music to the world, online. At each step, we'll keep you up to date.
Everyone wants to know "what is working in online distribution and promotion." That's what we're trying to answer with this experiment. The stage is set, the music is ready, and we ... Read More
