This is a strange time to be a musician. Radiohead is giving free albums away, Trent Reznor is going direct to fans with a similar but distinct approach, Coldplay is experimenting with free, CD’s are loss-leaders for most big department stores, and the RIAA is suing music lovers left and right.

What’s a musician to do? Well for starters you should really care about your online presence. You need a strong website, and your music needs to be where fans can find it. Those are the pre-requisites to the course, the auditions for the band, the try-outs for the game. Give your fans the chance to find you. Then you can try all sorts of cool experiments and fan-finding activities like the megabands above. And make no mistake – the demand for interesting new music has never been greater.
